Welcoming Spring
Article written by: Kirsty Wilson
Spring has sprung, and has gradually brought with it lighter mornings and the illusion of longer evenings. It certainly seems to brighten one’s outlook when greeted by daylight, and as we look towards longer, warmer days, it seems an appropriate time to explore a little of what our community has to offer us during this spring season.
Something that beautifully marks the arrival of the season is the appearance of the daffodils. A vibrant display awaits those travelling along Queensferry Road, where the pretty Spring flowers have already begun to bloom, slowly spreading their golden glow along the vibrant boundary of our community.
Though the dark evenings fit for snuggling up with a good book are coming to an end, any one passing by Willow Grove in Pitcorthie can still browse and borrow from the Little Free Library by the bus stop. Residents can also catch up on community news on the adjacent noticeboard. Information is currently displayed here about the proposed demolition of the King Malcolm hotel to build a Lidl store. The leaflet also details how residents can voice their opinion on the proposal.
In addition to their weekly Book Bug sessions, Duloch Library are hosting an author event with Kate Foster on Thursday 13th March, with doors opening at 6.45pm for a 7pm start. This is a chance for fans of Foster’s to meet and greet the author.
Bringing Broadway boldly home to our local community, some of our talented youngsters will be performing in the Scottish Primary School Glee Challenge later this month. A choir group from Duloch Primary will be attending. Inclusive communication is at the heart of this challenge, organised by the Frisson Foundation, and pupils are encouraged to use sign language in their performances. The first heat takes place on 18th March, and will be held at the Alhambra theatre. If successful, the winning groups will go on to compete in regional and then national finals. I am sure you will all join me in wishing our local pupils the very best of luck with their performances! Tickets for these shows can be purchased from the theatre box office.
Pitbauchlie House Hotel is hosting this year’s Over 65’s Evening which takes place on Sunday 13th April, more details of which can be found in this newsletter.
Pitreavie Golf Club is offering the opportunity for free social membership until the end of June. See their full-page advertisement for details.
We are nearing the holidays once again, with schools closing for Easter break on Friday 4th April and returning on Easter Monday 21st. Here’s wishing those who celebrate a happy, healthy Easter, and all our community members a safe and happy Spring time.
